Frequently Asked Questions
Nightmare on Main Street
Everything you need to know to survive Main Street!

Is there an age restriction?
Parents know their children best and make the final determination, but we recommend no one under 13 be subjected to the Nightmare! Anyone under 13 definitely has to
be accompanied by a parent. Carrying children through is not allowed (trust us, it’s not a good idea). No one under 7 is allowed.
Can I use my cell or a flashlight?
Where’s the fun in that?! No flashlights or cell phone lights. No photos or videos inside the Nightmare except in the line. There’s plenty of fun inside the SHADOW before you enter, so feel free to take all the photos and videos before you come inside. Once you go into the darkness, better keep your phone in your pocket. If you lose your phone (or glasses, or keys, or anything else) we cannot look for them until after sunrise. The Nightmare cannot be interrupted until the sun comes up.
What should I bring and what should I leave at home?
Wear comfortable shoes and clothes. Bring your cell phone for fun pics and videos in the SHADOW, but not inside the Nightmare. No backpacks or large purses—they will be searched before entering. No Halloween costumes or masks.
Can I get a refund if I don't make it through?
No way! That means we did our job TOO WELL! Besides, all proceeds from Haunted Prison NRV benefit the programs of New River Community Action – Head Start, and Housing and Homelessness prevention, food pantries, and all kinds of awesomeness in our community! #WeScareBecauseWeCare
Where is it located? How do I get there? How much does it cost to park?
Nightmare on Main Street is located at 34 West Main Street, Pulaski VA 24301. Parking is FREE on the street and in the municipal lots within two blocks of the Nightmare. Click below for a directions to the municipal lots:
How long is the line/wait?
We sell tickets in time slots (every half hour). Online tickets allow you to choose your time slot. We try to keep wait times reasonable (less than an hour).
Are concessions available?
For great food, come early and check out our friends at Max's Winery, Broussard’s General Store or the Purple Cactus, down the block on Main Street!
Is it scary? Will they touch me?
Can you feel it when things touch you in your nightmares? The Nightmare is a “5 senses” experiences—sight, sound, smell, the works! But nothing living will intentionally touch you-- it will only be the undead things may give you that feeling that something might be about to grab you. We don’t have to touch you to leave you shaken to your soul. We can help you leave early if you just can’t take it (let one of the prisoners know). You can also purchase a “Chicken necklace” if you want to experience the Nightmare but not get so much attention.
How much are tickets? Where can I buy them? Do you offer discounts?
Tickets are $20 or $25/person, depending on the weekend. Tickets are available online, which is the only way that makes sure you get in before we SELL OUT.
You can get a $5 discount if you are military, first responder, or a teacher (ID required upon entry). Groups of 10 or more get 10% off when you buy online.
Can I come if I am pregnant (or have a health condition)?
NOPE. We highly discourage and do not recommend anyone with heart problems, seizure disorders, pregnant, or any other medical condition to visit the haunt. Of course we are not doctors, so make sure you talk to yours before you even think about it.
Is it wheelchair accessible?
The Nightmare IS wheelchair accessible! We may have one of our staff accompany your group to help navigate tricky spots.
Do I have to sign a waiver?
Yes! If you purchase your ticket online, you can sign it electronically (please forward it to everyone in your party so they can sign too). If you buy tickets onsite, there are paper waivers available.
What if it rains?
Nightmare on Main Street is open rain or shine. If we close for any reason, it will be on our website, on social media, and online ticket purchases will receive an email.
Are weapons allowed?
No weapons of any kind are allowed in the Nightmare, including pocket knives. You can have the ticket office hold them if you accidentally bring it with you.
Do I have to pay to get in if I am just waiting but not going through the prison?
No. You can hang out in the “SHADOW” area before the entrance to the nightmare.
